BACKSTAGE ATELIER
I began producing “backstage atelier ” paintings while working on stage sets in theater workshops. While conveying the work processes I witnessed, I focused more on compositional arrangements. Watching the process of painting a curtain covering the workshop space, I felt the excitement of needing to transfer the image of the surroundings covered in a red hue onto the painting. My choice to focus on the backstage area rather than the fun and colorful front of the stage, despite the challenging work process involved in theater set design, parallels my interior compositions featuring the painter (myself) and model images. The reason is that I have always been more interested in the background of production rather than its results.
